Elkridge MD, Dec 6, 2010
On Saturday, October 30, 2010 more than 300 friends and supporters attended the annual Dinner Dance benefiting the Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS). The evening honored Kevin Powderly, Co-Founder of CyberCore Technologies, Special Care, the Down syndrome foundation he created, and the Powderly family.
Michael Smith, Executive Director of ACDS, greeted more than twenty Powderly friends and family representing the hundreds of Special Care supporters. Mr. Smith noted that Kevin Powderly and Special Care’s “relationship with ACDS traces back to 1991 when Matthew Shea Powderly was born to Michael and Maryann Powderly. Little did they know that a relationship would form that would continue for the next 19 years.”
Kevin Powderly and his wife Emily realized how fortunate their family was and wanted to find a way to give back. With help from the whole Powderly family, they started a fundraiser to help people with Down syndrome. This fundraiser became the Special Care Foundation and its annual Golf Invitational held in Ocean City Maryland. Through contributions from its amazing supporters and CyberCore’s continuous support, over the past 16 years the Special Care Foundation has raised more than $300,000 for ACDS.
ACDS is dedicated to providing lifetime resources of exceptional quality, innovation and inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities and their families. ACDS provides programs and services that include early intervention, day care/ nursery, preschool special education and clinical services for children, from infancy to age 5. It also offers individualized residential services, Medicaid service coordination, and day habilitation for adults, age 21 and over.
CyberCore Technologies and Kevin Powderly look forward to many years of continuing to raise funds for Special Care and its beneficiaries
Michael, Kevin, Matthew, and Maryann Powderly accept the award from ACDS for over 16 years of support.
